Tesco has made a new change to one of its meal deals (Picture: Getty Images)

For many Brits, supermarket meal deals are a quick, classic food option – whether enjoyed at lunchtime or as part of a set evening dinner with microwavable options.

With a main, a snack or a side, a drink and perhaps even a pudding at a set price, there’s a clear opportunity for a bargain on bougier items that normally would cost us a few extra pennies. Smoothie or sushi, anyone?

But now, Tesco has confirmed that it’s increasing the price of its beloved Finest dine-in meal deal. The meal for two offer – which comes with a main, a side, a dessert and a drink – is now £15, up from £12 previously.

The change comes amid a refreshed menu for Tesco shoppers, which has seen nine new products introduced to the range – bringing the total of mix and match options up to 20.

What’s included in the Tesco Finest dine-in meal deal?

This spring, customers will be able to enjoy fresh dishes including a Pork Crackling Joint with Cider Jus, Lemon & Stem Ginger Posset, and even a Manchego Stuffed Chicken.

When it comes to sides, there’s still plenty of potato-shaped goodness – with the Triple Cook Chips (complete with Cornish sea salt) and the Golden-Baked Potato Dauphinoise. And for a spot of veg, there’s the option of a Green Vegetable Medley.

Thinking ahead to pudding? Shoppers have the option of choosing between the likes of a Mixed Berry Trifle, a Sticky Toffee Pudding, a Sicilian Lemon and Stem Ginger Posset, and the Salted Caramel Profiteroles. Frankly, our mouths are watering.

‘We have worked to improve the quality across our Finest Dine In range, investing in the ingredients and recipes, and introducing an updated menu,’ a spokesperson from Tesco told Metro.

‘Clubcard members will pay just £15 for two people, offering a saving of up to £22.50, for a main, side, dessert and drink, including a range of beers or Finest wines, or non-alcoholic alternatives.

‘Finest Dine In offers great value and is a delicious, convenient alternative to dining out at a fraction of the price.’

Tesco adds ‘food of the gods’ to its £3.60 supermarket meal deal

In addition to your choice of sandwich, pasta pot or salad for a main as part of the Tesco meal deal, you can now swap your packet of crisps for a side of what some believe to be the ‘food of the gods’.

Yes, that’s right, we’re talking about Pot Noodles.

The instant noodle snack food has been added to the supermarket’s offering, but there’s a bit of a catch – it’s only available in selected stores across the UK and it’s only one specific flavour you can get.

Customers can add the Chicken & Mushroom Pot Noodle (90g) as a snack in their meal deal, which costs £4 or £3.60 for Clubcard holders.

This side option will be offered in 50 Tesco stores nationwide.

However, not all shoppers are happy about the change.

Posting in the r/Tesco Subreddit, @Leather-Assistant902 said the previous £12 deal was ‘okay.’ They argued that for £15, ‘you can just get a nice-ish takeaway’ instead.

@Splodge89 took issue with the portion sizes, writing that ‘the idea that this deal is enough for two people is hilarious.’ In their opinion, the ‘mains almost always need something else to go with.’

‘I’m not saying I’d eat one all to myself, but the two portions for a main and a side is pathetic,’ they added, while @Exciting-Trick4575 said they ‘used to buy these meal deals as a treat,’ but ‘won’t be anymore.’

But in @PositiveTurnover8923’s view, ‘the chicken and leek pie with chunky chips is definitely enough for two.’

This isn’t the only change Tesco has made of late.

Earlier this month, the supermarket confirmed that a single Glazed Original Krispy Kreme now technically counts as a ‘snack’ item as part of both the regular and premium meal deals.

And it’s a bargain too, as outside of the meal deal offer, just one of the doughnuts costs £1.99. Work smarter, not harder, as they say.

It’s safe to say that Tesco meal deal fans were ecstatic. Posting over on TikTok, @ellieannahawkes asked ‘why did no one tell me a plain Krispy Kreme was included in Tesco meal deals please?’

Over in the comments section, @thedeardiaries wrote ‘this is game changing omg,’ while @diaryofcait joked ‘live love Krispy Kreme.’

@moraixe laughed ‘let’s not make other people aware of this,’ as @rytis_xo labelled the new move ‘insane,’ adding ‘thank u Tesco.’
