What\u2019s your ultimate guilty pleasure snack?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If I have a little drink of an evening, like a glass of single malt whisky, there\u2019s a dirty snack I have with it.<\/p>\n<p>I take some amazing cheddar \u2014 Pitchfork or Westcombe \u2014 and I slice it up on a board. Then I get some Hula Hoops, and for me it has to be Salt & Vinegar flavour. You take the round receptacle, and you have to penetrate the cheese with it to create what inevitably will be a little mouthful of pure, decadent filth.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"img-container shareable-item wp-caption\">\n<div class=\"img-wrap\">\n\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"646\" height=\"363\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" class=\"article-image wp-image-23001039 lazyload\" alt=\"Jamie Oliver uses a Salt & Vinegar Hula Hoop to cut some cheese\" loading=\"lazy\" data-src=\"http:\/\/www.mugfoundry.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/JAMIE-OLIVER.01_12_12_18.Still007-217e.jpg\">\t<\/div><figcaption>The chef\u2019s \u2018dirty\u2019 guilty pleasure snack involves Salt & Vinegar Hula Hoops and cheese\u2026 (Picture: Metro)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Crunchy, soft, silky, umami\u2026 it\u2019s so right, but so wrong at the same time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You can get yourself some cheap cheese, and it\u2019ll work just fine, but I quite like the juxtaposition of good, British farmhouse cheese, which you can get in lovely delis and posh supermarkets, and Hula Hoops.<\/p>\n<p>Just make sure you get the regular Hula Hoops, not the flashy new big ones \u2014 the crisps need to be small and firm, not large and airy, in order to cut through the cheese.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s one storecupboard item you can\u2019t live without?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People will be shocked and horrified to discover I have tinned new potatoes. Some think it\u2019s awful, but they\u2019re super delicious. No boiling needed, you can literally turn them into a salad, or put them in a pan and have them hot and crispy in four minutes. You can mash them, smash them, all those kinds of things. So for busy people, this is really useful.<\/p>\n<p>I also keep a tin of Ambrosia custard in the cupboard. I prefer this to posh, homemade custard. I\u2019d make my own.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>You\u2019ll also find gochujang in my fridge, which is a spicy fermented chili paste. It\u2019s like the flavour bomb of the year. It\u2019s unbelievable rubbed over a chicken, some fish, or even shredded vegetables.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>And what do you always keep in your freezer?<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p>I think the freezer is probably the most underrated part of the kitchen. I\u2019m a massive fan of <a href=\"https:\/\/metro.co.uk\/2024\/09\/29\/flying-3-000-miles-home-heinz-ketchup-loving-dream-come-true-21486196\/\">Heinz Ketchup<\/a>, I\u2019ll say that. But the own-brand supermarket ketchups are really, really good and technically better for you, because they have less sugar \u2013 and if you have less sugar you have more tomatoes, so you actually get more tomatoes for your money.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Do you ever get a cheeky Maccies?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve got nothing against it, but I don\u2019t buy it personally. If I want a burger, I\u2019ll just make it \u2013 you can do it yourself better, cheaper, quicker and tastier.<\/p>\n<p>Also could you imagine Jamie Oliver going to McDonald\u2019s?! It would be such a nightmare. <\/p>\n<p><strong>Is there anything you\u2019ll never eat?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In theory I should eat anything, but I think that I wouldn\u2019t be able to eat dog. I don\u2019t use mine loads, usually it\u2019s to take ice cream that\u2019s too hard to scoop and just soften it a little bit. But they make really good, delicious steamed puddings. Super quick, just 40 seconds in a little cup.<\/p>\n<p>You can also take uncooked poppadoms that you buy from the supermarket and pop them in the microwave on full whack for 35 seconds, so you don\u2019t have to deep fry them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Any game-changing cooking tips to share?\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can create an amazing dish using a frozen meal. This is a plug, but I\u2019ve developed a range of frozen meals, which I\u2019m really proud of, using a really clean deck of ingredients. There are a lot of options \u2013 from classic lasagna to chicken tikka masala and beef bourguignon, and you can use these in so many ways.<\/p>\n<p>Take the bourguignon, you could use it as a pie base and top with some puff pastry, or as a lovely pasta sauce because it\u2019s got onions, red wine and herbs in, plus lots of veggies. Get it nice and hot in the oven, in a pan or on the microwave, then stir it into your favourite pasta and top with grated parmesan.
